CLASS AND COMPETITOR INFORMATION

The Royal Western Yacht Club has a long history of hosting high profile sailing events including Round Britain and Ireland, Rolex Fastnet, OSTAR and IRC SW Championships. A solid background in race management combined with the excellent sailing waters and shore side facilities Plymouth has to offer, are what make the Club’s new biennial event, Barratt Homes Plymouth Race Week so exciting.

The emphasis of this regatta is on quality racing. By delivering a first class event both on and off the water, we hope that Barratt Homes Plymouth Race Week will build a reputation for racing excellence and emerge as the South West’s most competitive sailing event, attracting amateur and professional sailors from across the UK.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD RACE MANAGEMENT: YOUR SAY

International Race Officer, Mike Pearson, will head up Barratt Homes Plymouth Race Week’s team of international and national race officials. The team will set challenging courses both inside and outside of Plymouth Breakwater.

Because this is a new event, we are keen to provide the Race Management that each Class requires. With three courses planned (two outside the break water and one inside - see chart) plus an extra course for white sail, the Race Officers can design courses and Sailing Instructions which ensure excellent, competitive racing for each individual Class.

If you would like to discuss your Class requirements and help us to build a successful, competitive and Class focussed regatta, please contact us at:

This is your chance to help create a competitive event that you want to sail in!

SAILING IN PLYMOUTH

For competitors, sailing in the port of Plymouth will be hard to beat. The more sheltered conditions of Plymouth Sound give way to open sea and minimal tidal influences around the waters of Plymouth create perfect conditions for close, competitive racing.

Competitors arriving in Plymouth will radio in to the Race Office and be directed to their berth. The Berthing Team will ensure that each boat is greeted and where possible, the crew given an orientation of the key event hubs such as the Race Office and Events Village. Classes will be berthed together giving each association the chance to create their own social event within the main event.

There are three key Event Marinas, (see event map) each with excellent facilities. For the Classes berthed at Yacht Haven, a regular water taxi will run competitors to and from Commercial Wharf where the Event Village is situated.

ON-SHORE EXPERIENCE

The hub of the on-shore activity will be centred around the Race Village situated on Commercial Wharf (see event map), the central focus of which will be the event tent which will act as a space for briefings, prize givings and be the main hub of social activity.

Each evening there will be the daily prize giving in the event tent, which will also house the main bar area and stage, which each night will host music and live bands. Commercial Wharf is located in the Barbican area of Plymouth where plenty of lively bars, restaurants and clubs will also provide a great back drop for Barratt Homes Plymouth Race Week socialising.
